ROBOT ACTIVITIES
On Saturday, February 23, 2019, we participated in the tournament organized by the Bilim Kahramanları Derneği on behalf of the FIRST Lego League organization. As a team, we have learned a lot from this tournament which has goals of supporting students to love science, understand the scientific approach, work as a team, develop design thinking skills, and act within the framework of certain common values both internationally and globally.
The theme of this year was space (“Into the Orbit”). The BLIS TECH BOTS team of middle school students studied the issue of Loneliness as a problem and worked on a solution based on yoga and meditation. On the other hand, they designed their own lego robot for the robot games of the tournament.
Congratulations to all of our students for their attitude and dedicated work in the process.
I would also like to thank our computer teacher Seda Altıntop, who helped us to restart this activity again in BLIS, and thank the science teacher Doğa Toprak who coaches the team, and I wish them continued success in the following tournaments. We are grateful for the BLIS management and our parents for all their support during these months.
As a consultant of the team I also have chance to experience the process. Now, we are working on a more sustainable model by taking actions as the technology department in collaboration with BLIS PTA in order to ensure the continuity of this event.
We aim to start a robot activities program within the scope of our IMPAct program. With the contributions of Ms. Sıla Sagun, one of the high school teachers who started this activity years ago and continued for 4-5 years in BLIS and with the collaboration of the Elementary school who also participated to this tournament for a few years at the same period. For the next year, it is our first goal to add a team from secondary school and a team from elementary school. On the other hand, we are in search of what we can do at high school level.
